2 Years, we started late 1991 and it was released just before Christmas 1993 (Amiga 500 version).
Dpaint, Brilliance and a level editor programmed by Mario.
Because of legal reasons. :)
R-Type, Battle Squadron, Denaris and Xenon 2 come to mind. Besides those brilliant games: HR Giger, John Berkey, Rodney Matthews, Star Wars.
It does? Possibly because the CD32 was rushed out in no time and a bug sneaked in.
We reworked alot during the process, so I'm sure we trashed pixels along the way to reach a higher level of quality. Which taught me to never start with designing level 1, because that's the showcase of the game and should leave a lasting impression.
The lava screenshot as seen in the magazine was a mock-up and never implemented as such. When we did the final boss level, the running robot had to be blittered on an empty background to keep it 50fps, also when the player had a fully loaded spaceship. The animating lava is all that's left of the mock-up graphics.
Yes, for Sega Megadrive. I did a couple of test-graphics, iirc. The Megadrive video chip was quite different, less colours to choose from. I think Mario also had talks with Manfred Trenz about a C64 version, but yeah, 1994 and C64 games.

Graphics were done by me, Arthur 'Ozzy' van Jole and Lars 'Mirage' Verhoeff.
I allready did music before that, actually. Originally the music for d-hero was to be done by none other than Jeroen Tel, but for some reason he bailed out. So Rick 'Ice-T' Hoekman and myself did the music.
C64 sales were dead. Amiga sales were dead in 1994 as well. :) Reason enough not to work on those platforms.
