Re: Gloom Reforged dla 68k
Hi everyone,
I stumbled across this forum by chance and would like to clarify a few things, as there doesn't seem to be any background information on the project here...
It's based on Gloom (1), not Gloom Deluxe. The code released back then only included a nearly compilable version of Gloom, not Gloom Deluxe. That's why it only had AGA and no ECS or P96 at the beginning.
This, along with the enhancements like simple reflections of bullets, enemies, and walls, as well as Bayer dithering to avoid the harsh depth gradations of the original and depth fog, requires a more powerful CPU than the original.
The reason for this version was purely personal: to be able to play Gloom with both mouse and keyboard like an FPS shooter.
After some feedback from the community, I decided to expand and release the project.
It's now possible to play the latest version, 1.9.1, on an ECS Amiga or an AGA Amiga. A Picasso96 mode is also available, but in version 1.9.1, it only works with AGA running in the background, as this aspect wasn't yet technically mature.
Version 2.0 is on the horizon and will offer pure P96 support for various resolutions and also widescreen. It will also work on ECS Amigas with P96, using the full 256 colors, not the limited color palette found in original Gloom when played on P96 on ECS.
Please bear with us a little longer; version 2.0 is currently in its final stages of testing with several beta testers.
