HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO YOU ALL
And a Happy New Year,
The Team from A1200net would like to extend its warmest wishes to you and your loved ones.
Thank you so much for your dedication and commitment to our common goals.
We hope that you too can unplug, relax, and settle into an enjoyable holiday season.
Happy Holidays & Happy New Year.
Quick update on Keycaps QC process review
As we shared last month, review of Quality Control processes with the printing partner is underway. The goal for this is to review each and every type of issue Kickstarter contributors have experienced and shared with us when they received their rewards early 2019. (80% of KS contributors - 20% still remaining)
While we previously worked on resolving the label printing issues between mid to end 2019, and which ultimately paid off with a better printing process, a long time has passed since the pandemic started. This obviously resulted in a full stop on all project activities.
For those reasons and because time has passed, we need to revisit the review of the printing processes and most importantly Quality Control measures and settings once again.
With the volume of keycaps that is to produce it is necessary we make sure we’ll deliver the best keycaps sets as possible. Some issues may still arise, but that is expected but the goal is to minimize these.
Once the QC process review is done, we shall get a production schedule assigned.
Please note this will most certainly not happen before the end of the Chinese New Year, but rather expectantly a few months after… but we’ll get there and that is progress we like to see.
Once we have a greenlight and confirmation we can adjust in between series of sets, we’ll most certainly do a first batch of keycaps sets initially and in all language layouts. This is to control the outcome and results.
While this does take some extra time initially, it does test all variables and gives us the confidence we need. We shall however share all results, production photos and videos in the process as we always do. We’ll also dispatch this early Serie to contributors. Next, we’ll get the following series of keycaps sets out with the same level of QC involved but in large quantities.
For those who never got a keycaps panel in their hands (See photo below),
30% of the issue we had in 2019 were due to wrong profiles. This is human error.
The keycaps panel is assembled manually. If a wrong profile is installed in a slot, the printing process does not see that and pad print the label onto the key anyway. The following QC operator might not see the wrong profile either.
Amiga keycaps all have custom profiles other than for instance MX-keycaps you buy nowadays. As we’re bound to reproduce the pad printing technique to get an overall result that is as near as the original, this is what makes the new Amiga keycaps set the most challenging project we had so far.
We truly appreciate the support and patience from all those who have contributed to our projects.
Happy Holidays to you all, and a Happy New Year.
The A1200NET Team.
