Oooo :) już grubo ponad 3 lata minęło od mojego posta z pierwszym wpisem na liście.
Nie pamiętam nawet ile wpłaciłem, nie pamiętam jakie kolory chciałem i mam dziś zupełnie inny zestaw Amig w domu :)
No ciekawe, ciekawe co i kiedy z tego wszystkiego wyjdzie... wygląda, że problemów z guzikami więcej niż ustawa przewiduje.
Producentów chińskich trzeba pilnować.
Kontrola jakości u nich wymagana razy 100.
Byłem tam w kilkudziesięciu fabrykach i wiem jak to działa.
Jak tylko się da coś zrobić taniej lub szybciej a w specyfikacji nie ujęto to Oni tak to zrobią właśnie.
A jak ujęto w specyfikacji to też zrobią błędy, które trzeba dokładnie "wyoślić" i pokazać palcem będąc face2face z "managerem produkcji" bo inaczej do końca będzie ci gadał, że "takie to jest dobre".

Jeśli śledzicie update kampanii, to wiecie, że sprawy się pokomplikowały i poodciągały.
Temat dotyczy tego, że niektóre kolory nie zostaną wyprodukowane i należy dokonać wymiany koloru.

Jest (od ponad tygodnia) nowy update. Można się z niego dowiedzieć tyle, że trzeba wybrać kolor jeśli się chce załapać na proces produkcyjny przed 2021.
Innymi słowy jak ja to rozumiem, że jest jak po zakończeniu zbiórki ani kroku dalej.
Czyli przez ostatni miesiąc nie potrafił zebrać informacji o kolorach. Trochę się nie dziwie bo sam wybrałem taki zestaw jakiego nie chce/nie potrzebuje ale wydaje mi się najbardziej rozsądny.
Dla dystrybutorów są jakieś bonusy/vouchery tutaj zupełnie nie wiem co i dla kogo, to nie jest określone. Pewnie jest coś do negocjacji z PPA poszło 7% całego zamówienia 13 K$

With all what happened since 2020 and still ongoing now, I must admit that my level of stress was raised quite a lot on my professional side.

I understand that lots of you guys might not follow the campaign update page on IndieGoGo, where the team and I share all the latest news. Even you're into this as PPA.PL group, you need to follow campaign updates to get the latest info. Even if its not much recently. There is at least 1 updates each months (give or take few days)

Now with the current situation with Keycaps
Let me start with the timeline since the Kickstarter campaign.
- The KS campaign ended mid Jan'17
- July'17, the mold made by our partner produced V shaped keys. An error in the design that went through.
Our partner had to make new molds of course.
- Between Sept'17 & Aug'18 we went into language layouts and countless labels iterations
It is also Aug'18 we decided to deliver keycaps on a plastic panel, instead of delivering in a simple plastic bag.
- Sept'18, Batch#1 mass production started for all US/DE/FR/UK layouts in White/Black/CD32 theme and Transparent sets.
We decided to produce in two batches, as to produce all colors would have taken way more additional time.
Retrospectively now, I am glad we decided on this. At the time we weren't aware of the misprints yet so it gave us a change to replace your wrongly printed keys in fact.
- Jan'19, Batch#1 Merchandise is on board and sailing toward our UK warehouse.
- Feb'19/(19/20), Batch#1 keys reached warehouse and dispatch to contributors starts.
The same week we dispatch the keys, we are realizing that several boxes of full black sets and translucent sets had issues.. we could not send those sadly.
At the same time we are receiving feedback from backers informing us that some of their keys had misprinted labels...
It was quickly understood we had to replace those, and so we did.
(at this point, some of you are still waiting for replacement keys. But this is normal since we need those to be manufactured.. and we're currently waiting).
We replaced a total of around 1200 keys (as in single keys. not full sets.)
It was also decided we had to fix this label printing issues with the printing manufacturer.
(They are two factories, one injects the keys, another one prints them. Keycaps are transported in between).
- From June'19 to Dec'19, we've built the remaining language layout panels for printing, and we've also fixed all the printing issues we got from contributors feedback from Batch#1.
Also, in Oct'19 we were present at Amiga'34 to display the latest keycaps sample at the time including the new German layout.
- End Dec'19 we were waiting for our manufacturers to inform us on the mass production schedule for Batch#2.
- After Christmas and New year festivities, Mid Jan'20 I was informed from our PM that we'd had to wait a week more as she couldn't share any timeline with us within the week and that we should wait the following week.
- End Jan'20, we got the news about the pandemic which had hit China at first of course.
At this point of time, you have to understand we're most probably the tiniest customers for those factories.
I live in Singapore as some of you might know. My neighbors who have family in China did not had any news for weeks..
== From this very point in time, both project are at full stop! Keycaps and A500 Cases.
- In March'20, we informed contributors through the campaign update page that we didn't had anything in sight regarding when our keycaps could be manufactured. Curiously, we had the feeling the A500 case project might somewhat kinda move a bit in a not too distant future.. (well, that started to happen in September'20!)
- Fast forward to Sept'20; A quick chat with our two PMs in CN, and we understood that when the time comes we'd have a chance to produce keycaps, it would be best for us to have less colors to avoid being pushed back even further. We understood the reason why this was gently suggested (in a chinese way).
For each color change, molds and press needs to be cleaned inside out. It takes 3 to 4 days.
Having less colors and they'd agree to produce our keycaps as soon as possible.
In the meantime, and this is important to understand, the printing factory which is usually manufacturing parts for pharma, turns its lines to covid support.
At the very same time CN government is requesting for hundreds of factories and companies to support the effort.
However, with the reduction of colors we now know that injecting the keycaps will be way swifter than before, and this is where all the team thanks you again guys because this will actually be of help when production time arrives in a few weeks or couple months from now.
Also, Sept'20 is when we got news from our PM in UK informing us that A500 case project will be able to slowly move again. At the time, the CnC prototype was waiting on a cupboard since January for the fitting tests to be done!
In the mean time we didn't any info yet about keycaps production and when it could happen.
We only knew that with less colors we'd be able to manufacture faster, so that label printer also get them faster.
- Oct/Nov/Dec'20 - We received quite few updates and nothing new really. We knew we were waiting and the time would come. Also in the meantime the pandemic started to pic up again in europe.
As I said earlier, I live in Asia and my borders are closed since Jan'20. No one can come in nor go out.
(Today May'21, this is still the case).
- Jan/Feb/March'21 - We got news that one of the production line will be retrofitted to attend to conventional customers. This is good news, since we're in this group!
- We're now May'21 and we're now on the queue. Alas, we can't yet communicate any ETA for now. None were communicated to us. The only thing I know is that it moves and Keycaps are almost visible from where I stand.
If you'd ask me last year in September or December about when your keycaps would be done?
I'd answer I had no clue.
Today is different, because I know things are moving up again.
And the proof of this is the progress we recently made on with the A500 cases.
I understand some of you might still not understand why we need to wait a bit more. Or why we haven't decided to work with another factory for the labels etc..
The thing is that its not that easy to change and move to another factory.
When we've done all those label printing tests, our PMs in China got few samples from a couple other factories.
I can assure you guys don't want to see the results. The tests we've done were laser etching and dye sublimation.
Seing the bad test results (shared through campaign updates as well), we went back to pad printing and stayed with current partner.
Also, we can't move all pad printing tooling to another factory as everything is custom and would generate additional costs.

Jestem rozczarowany brakiem kolorów, to był powód dla którego wziąłem udział w drugiej kampanii.
Mam klawisze z pierwszej kampanii, są one średniej jakości zwłaszcza nadruk a wyprofilowanie przycisków F i J jest fatalne płaskie, mało przyjemne dla palca w przeciwieństwie do oryginału, poza tym klawisze potrafią wypaść przy pisaniu.
Może tutaj mści się brak doświadczenia w przemyśle, ale robiąc coś na drugim końcu świata warto było pomyśleć, nad sposobem przeniesienia tego w inne miejsce na świecie.
Szkoda, że produkcja nie jest w Europie, w Polsce jest bardzo dużo narzędziowni, wierzę że wszystko dzięki temu odbywało by się szybciej i była by szansa na nowe pomysły i projekty.
Po tych 6 latach osobiście ani nie polecę ani sam nie wezmę udziału w przyszłych zbiórkach, bo to nie działa.
Klawisze (z drugiej kampanii) które miały być po 3 miesiącach będą może po 3 latach i to w ograniczonych kolorach.
Ogólnie współczuję, że to tak kiepsko idzie, nawet nie jestem zły bo wiedziałem jakie jest ryzyko a czas też robi swoje.
Pozdrawiam i życzę przyspieszenia i powodzenia aby udało się dokończyć rozpoczęte projekty.

Po tych 6 latach osobiście ani nie polecę ani sam nie wezmę udziału w przyszłych zbiórkach, bo to nie działa.
Klawisze (z drugiej kampanii) które miały być po 3 miesiącach będą może po 3 latach i to w ograniczonych kolorach.
Ogólnie współczuję, że to tak kiepsko idzie, nawet nie jestem zły bo wiedziałem jakie jest ryzyko a czas też robi swoje.
Pozdrawiam i życzę przyspieszenia i powodzenia aby udało się dokończyć rozpoczęte projekty.

That is why we suspended the production of Batch#2 in 2019, to improve the label printing quality and fix those issues. It took us up to end 2019 to reach the quality we expected.

Respectfully. This is something that is not your taste. We've never heard any contributor up to now who complained about this. But I understand you do not appreciate this design.

This can happen on some keyboards. The reason is due to that there is at least 5x different mitsumi compatible keyboards that were made throughout the history of commodore. It is easily fixable. Our keycaps sets need to fit all variations.
We are sorry about this inconvenient. Some users will never experience it, while some might have this issue with a couple keys. Some users with even more.
Maybe the lack of experience in the industry takes revenge here, but when doing something on the other side of the world, it was worth thinking about a way to transfer it to another place in the world

It is a pity that the production is not in Europe, there are a lot of tool shops in Poland, I believe that everything would happen faster and there would be a chance for new ideas and projects.

The keys (from the second campaign) that were supposed to be after 3 months will be maybe 3 years later and in limited colors.
As explained, the second campaign took place when we were dispatching the first batch between Jan/Fev 2019. We then had to fix the label printing issues and were ready to go ahead with production by end of December 2019. By Jan '20 both projects where halted due to the pandemic.
We lost 12 months straight forward just because of this.
I feel sorry that it is going so badly, I'm not even angry because I knew the risks and time is also doing its job. Best regards and I wish you speed up and good luck to complete the projects you have started.

If you look carefully, you'll see that lots of contributors have been mad against us (or mad against me directly) while we were stuck because of the pandemic. There were nothing we could do than wait.
Then, the A500 case project slowly restarted last September.
Contributors could see we had progress again on the case campaign and since last month our molds were tooled and we even starting to see the first injection tests last week!
It will happen exactly the same for the keycaps! It is just about patience and the keycaps project will restart exactly the same way the A500 case project restarted.

Odniosę się tylko do tego co faktycznie mnie rozczarowało.
Klawisze F i J są o wiele bardziej płaskie, używam klawiatury bezwzrokowo i bardzo sobie chwaliłem ten profil oryginalnego klawisza. Teraz próbując używać nowych klawiszy o wiele ciężej jest mi wyczuć J i F, jednym słowem trudniej się pisze, wolniej. Przyznam, że bardzo liczyłem na dobre odwzorowanie tych profili bo je uwielbiam w oryginale i nie znalazłem, żadnej klawiatury która miała podobny profil tych przycisków.
Polecam zamknąć oczy i sprawdzić jak pod palcem jaki profil mają oryginalne klawisze i nowe jest spora różnica.
Mimo to nie przekreśla to samych klawiszy bo znalazłem dla nich przeznaczenie ekspozycyjne - wystawowe, ale to było w pewnym zestawie kolorystycznym i to drugie moje rozczarowanie, że nie będzie odpowiednich kolorów. Tak, że klawisze mi się nie przydadzą ani do pisania ani do ciekawego wyeksponowania jednej z Amig.
